Aurobindo Phrama gets USFDA nod for veterinary drug

Drug maker Aurobindo Pharma today said its US-based joint venture firm has received approval from the drug regulator for its anti-bacterial veterinary medicine.

Cephazone Pharma, a joint venture between the company and US-based Medphamex, has received approval for its original abbreviated new animal drug application (ANDA) from the US Food and Drug Administration for its veterinary drug, Aurobindo Pharma said in a filing to the Bombay Stock Exchange.

The drug, ceftiofur sodium sterile powder, is the generic version of Pfizer's Naxcel and is used in the treatment of various bacterial infections in animals including dogs, swine, horses and cattle, the Hyderabad-based pharma company said.

Shares of Aurobindo Pharma surged over 4 per cent to trade at Rs 385.50 in the late afternoon trade on the BSE.
