AYUSH docs continue their protest

Doctors belonging to the Karnataka chapter of Ayush Federation of India (AFI) continued their agitationt for the third day on Sunday, demanding they be allowed to use necessary allopathic drugs during emergencies, the police said.

Over 5,000 Ayush (Ayurveda, Yoga, Unani, Sidda and Homeopathy) doctors from all over the state staged a protest at the freedom park here on Sunday, calling for an amendment to the Drugs and Cosmetics Act (1940) Clause 2 (e), which will allow them to administer alloapthic drugs during emergencies, police sources said.

President of state AFI Dr N A Magdum said, “Over 80 per cent of our doctors practice in rural areas and under the present provisions of the Act, we are not allowed to administer necessary allopathic drugs during emergencies when we have to bring the disease under control.”
