Badarpur Energy, wholly owned subsidiary of Barak Valley Cements, will commission its 6 Mw biomass-based thermal power plant by the end of this month.Barak Valley Cements brought out its initial public offering in November 2007 to raise finances to develop its wholly owned subsidiary Badarpur Energy for setting up a 6 Mw biomass based power project in Assam and to part-finance expansion of clinkerisation capacity of its cement plant. The biomass power generating unit will be using husk, a major by-product of rice industry, as fuel for generating power. The average cost of power is estimated to be about Rs 2.20 per unit. The power generated by this plant will meet the entire energy requirement of the cement production facility and contribute towards conservation of fossil-fuels. This multi-fuel, environment-friendly power plant will be the first of its kind in the North-East and a trend-setter so to speak. The entire expansion plan of the company under execution is also likely to be completed as per schedule.
