BAG Films, a television content provider, is set to foray into film production. It has bagged the movie rights of Taslima Nasreen's book, French Lover.

Anuradha Prasad, the company's managing director, said: "We have acquired the movie making rights of Nasreen's book French Lover which we would release by the end of 2005."

The novel is a self discovery of a Bengali woman and her journey from Kolkata to Paris.

The company is in the process of finalising the cast and the director and is expected to go on floors in the next six months.

BAG Films posted a 112 per cent increase in its net income for the third quarter this year, at Rs 96.04 crore from Rs 45.43 crore during the corresponding quarter of the previous year. Prasad attributed this increase to the company's success in the programming business.

"We are focused on being a content company for all genres of programming and we have experimented with various kinds of formats for this reason alone."

BAG Films has also established a Rs 15-crore journalism school "" International School of Media Studies (iSomes) "" in association with the US-based Missouri School of Journalism. The institution offers courses in broadcast journalism, television and media management.

The company has also set up a convergence studio in NOIDA to assist the industry for production purposes.

Currently, the company has news-based programmes for Star News (Sansani) and DD News (Bollywood ki Khabren), a game based show for Star Plus (Khulja Sim Sim), daily soaps on Star Plus (Kumkum) and weeklies on Star One (Siddhanth and Pyaar Ki Kashti Mein). The company has debuted on Sony channel as well with its social programme Rihaee.
