Eyeing a larger market share in the fast growing B-segment (125cc bikes), nation's second largest motorcycle manufacturer Bajaj Auto today launched Discover 125 Sports Tourer (ST) here.
"More and more customers are shifting to 125cc bikes, in which Bajaj enjoys a market share of 40%. We want to dominate in this segment and take our share to 50%," Bajaj's motorcycle business president K Srinivas said.
"With this new launch we are looking at double digit growth over the base volume," he said.
Last month, the company had sold 1.2 lakh units of 'Discover' in India across all categories like 100 cc, 125 cc and 150 cc.
According to the company, last year (2011-12) the motorcycle industry grew by 12% in India, in which the B-segment grew by 38%, which is the fastest growing segment.
"In the first quarter of this fiscal (2012-13) the motorcycle industry in India grew by 6.7%, in which the 125 cc segment showed a growth of 39%," Srinivas said.
"The share of 100 cc bikes has come down to 66%, which two year back used to be around 73%," he said.
The company has an annual production capacity of 4.75 million units.

The ex-showroom price of Discover 125 ST is Rs 55,391, in Gujarat. The company has sold around 3 lakh units of Discover since inception in Gujarat.
