Bajaj Auto has reported ‘highest-ever’ December sales. The Pune-based automobile major today informed the Bombay Stock Exchange its motorcycle and commercial car sales rose 13 per cent and nine per cent, respectively, last month over December 2011.
Even the consolidated sales figure and exports figure is 13 per cent and 5 per cent higher, respectively, the company said.
The numbers contrast the other industry majors’ that have seen slow or even negative sales growth.
Typically December sees sluggish sales as most buyers postpone the purchase to coming calender year. However the nine month period ending December Bajaj Auto's motor cycle sales are one percent lower and its consolidated sales are two percent lower than 2011 due to falling sales of commercial vehicles.
Hero Motor Corporation two wheeler sales were up by a marginal 0.25 percent while TVS Motor saw a drop of 9.6 percent in December sales, according to industry data released on Tuesday.
The sluggish sales growth is causing concern amongst auto and commercial vehicle manufacturers which have been rolling out new models and luring buyers with discounts.
