Bajaj Hindusthan posts Rs 277 cr net loss in FY12

Sugar major Bajaj Hindusthan Ltd today reported consolidated net loss of Rs 276.67 crore for the 2011-12 fiscal ended September on low realisation and high sugarcane prices.

The country's largest sugar producer had posted a consolidated net profit of Rs 21.45 crore in the previous fiscal. It follows October-September as its financial year.

Its total income from operations fell 14.2% to Rs 4,344.06 crore in 2011-12, from Rs 5,063.47 crore in the previous year, Bajaj Hindusthan said in a filing to the BSE.

On standalone basis, the company reported a loss of Rs 234.57 crore in 2011-12, as against Rs 12 crore net profit in the previous fiscal.

The total income from operations fell 13% to Rs 4,262.63 crore in 2011-12, from Rs 4,903.8 crore in the previous fiscal.

Bajaj Hindusthan has 14 sugar plants in Uttar Pradesh. They have an aggregate sugarcane crushing capacity of 136,000 TCD (tonnes crushed per day) and a distillery capacity to produce 800,000 litres of alcohol per day.

The cane price in UP was Rs 240-250 per quintal in the 2011-12 marketing year (October-September).
