The Maharashtra revenue department has slapped a Rs 223.63 crore notice to television production house Balaji Telefilms for allegedly violating the tax norms.
"The company has received notices of demand under section 38 of The Bombay Sales Tax Act, 1959, from sales tax authorities for amounts aggregating to Rs 223.63 crore (including interest and penalty) pertaining to sales tax for the financial years 2000-2001 to 2004-2005," Balaji Telefilms said in a filing to the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE).
The company is pursuing all legal remedies available to it in relation to the same, at the earliest, it added.
Balaji Telefilms is a production house based in Mumbai and is promoted by Ekta Kapoor and her family.
Shares of Balaji settled at Rs 34.80 a piece, down 1.69% from its previous close on the BSE.
