Banswara Syntex (BSL) is planning to invest Rs 88 crore in expanding its facilities by setting up one more trouser-manufacturing unit and a 18 MW captive power plant. The power plant will be functional by March 2007.

R L Toshniwal, chairman of BSL, said a capex of Rs 42 crore has been earmarked for setting up the coal/lignite-based power plant at Banswara, Rajasthan.

"Power costs are increasing by more than 30%. The new plant will meet our demand of 12 MW, and the rest will be sold."

The company, which exports trousers to the US and European Union, will increase its manufacturing capacity to 2.25 lakh trousers per month by September 2006.

A new facility in Daman will produce 75,000 trousers per month, and another facility is coming up at the Surat special economic zone. While the Daman facility will have an investment of Rs 6 crore, Rs 10 crore will be invested for the Surat unit.

The Rs 250-crore company is also planning a mordernisation-and-expansion drive at its process house in Banswara, which produces polyester viscose, polyester wool and cotton. BSL will add about 12,000 spindles to the present one lakh and 24 looms.
