Bartronics India Limited, a Hyderabad-based provider of automatic identification and data capture (AIDC) technologies, launched four new products based on smartcards at the Smartcards Expo 2008 held in New Delhi on Wednesday. The move is aimed at consolidating its position in the $62-million (around Rs 272.8 crore) smartcards market.

“We expect most of the software companies working on embedded systems technology to adopt our operating systems over the next two to three years, thereby enabling them to participate in the exploding smartcard industry in the country,” Sudhir Rao, managing director of Bartronics India, stated in a press release. According to a recent study, the smart cards industry, growing at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of almost 30 per cent in India, is set for a boom in the coming years.

The products include BLUE ICE, an off-the-shelf generic smartcards operating system that can be used for applications ranging from financial inclusion, e-purse applications, loyalty applications and mass transit applications; COS, to be used in driving licence, RC book, national ID and Rashtriya Swasthya Bima Yojana applications; CAMP, a smartcard for campus applications; and SIM, a phase-2+ compliant SIM card for South Asian GSM operators and service providers.

The four products are targeted towards the embedded application developers, software companies and end users to assist them in developing their applications using smartcards, the release added.
