The country's largest legal firm, Amarchand & Mangaldas & Suresh A Shroff & Co, finds itself in the middle of what looks like a protracted legal battle between two brothers of the founding family.

Brief history
  • Started in 1917 by Amarchand Shroff and Mangaldas Mehta
  • In 1980 Amarchand's son Suresh A Shroff, and his wife Bharti Shroff, took over and the firm is now known as Amarchand & Mangaldas & Suresh A Shroff & Co
  • In 1994, the death of Suresh lead to the ascension of his sons, Shardul and Cyril who took over Delhi and Mumbai offices, respectively. Along with the mother, Bharti, they controlled the majority equity stake in partnership firm
  • August 2014: Bharti Shroff dies, leaving behind a controversial will that bequeaths her stake to elder son, Shardul
  • November 2014: Shardul moves Bombay High Court seeking directions to implement the will
