The battle between the West Bengal government and The Chatterjee Group (TCG) over Haldia Petrochemicals Ltd (HPL) might end amicably, as the new industry minister, Partha Chatterjee, is taking an active interest doing so. The West Bengal Industrial Development Corporation and TCG are two key promoters of HPL.
The industry minister told Business Standard he was in touch with Purnendu Chatterjee, the chairman of TCG, and would like to have a meeting with him soon. Though no date has been fixed, the meeting might take place soon, as Chatterjee is in Kolkata.
Chatterjee has been involved in a long court battle with the state government over the distribution of shares and control of the company.
TCG officials declined to comment.
