With mounting pressure form the Editors Guild of India, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will dilute its earlier media accreditation guidelines for covering matches of the Indian Premier League (IPL), beginning April 18. |
Under the new guidelines likely to be issued soon, all photographers accredited to various news publications will no longer need to upload their pictures on the BCCI website. |
However, BCCI will have the right to request publications for pictures and it is up to the editors to oblige, according to sources. The new guidelines may deny accreditation to cricket and trade portals, but allow them to attend the press briefing to be held a day prior to every match and after each match. |
Last week, BCCI had said that all photographers covering IPL matches were mandatorily required to upload photographs on IPL's official website at their own cost. |
BCCI had also said that it would be its prerogative to use pictures taken by photographers without making any payment to publications. |
In response, the Editors Guild wrote a letter to BCCI President Sharad Pawar and IPL Commissioner Lalit Modi, protesting the "gag on media". |
BCCI met media representatives from various publications and agencies on Monday. Modi Later said that the accreditation guidelines would be reviewed. |
Meanwhile, ITC has come on board as the hotel sponsor for DLF Indian Premier League and Kingfisher Airlines will be the official travel sponsor. According to Modi, Kingfisher will dedicate aircraft at two centres " Delhi and Bangalore " to make travel easy for players. |
He also announced three teams led by Ravi Shastri, Greg Chappel and Sunil Gavaskar as commentators for the matches. The tournament consisting of 59 matches will be played over 44 days. |
