BEL lines up Rs 57 cr to implement SAP system

Defence PSU Bharat Electronics Ltd (BEL) is investing Rs 57 crore for implementing SAP systems in all its units and offices spread across the country and overseas, over three years period starting from 2005.
 
According to a company source, in the first phase the company has implemented SAP systems at its Bangalore complex. The mySAP Business Suite was procured from SAP India and the implementation was carried out by Wipro Infotech.
 
The source said that all the modules of SAP real time 3-tier architecture and product lifecycle management had been implemented at BEL's Bangalore complex in the first phase.
 
Once this is completed, BEL is also planning to implement advanced modules of SAP including supply chain management, business information warehouse, strategic enterprise management and other Internet-based applications such as customer relationship management and supplier relationship management. These would also be implemented at the other manufacturing units and offices of BEL in a phased manner during 2007.
 
Besides, a separate hospital management system is under implementation for HAL's Bangalore complex's hospital, according to an official release.
 
Earlier in October 2005, a pilot implementation of SAP was done in the components strategic business unit (SBU) of BEL's Bangalore complex.
 
The other SBUs of Bangalore complex went live in a phased manner during October and November 2006.
