Belgian Post International, the overseas arm of Belgian Post, which is the national postal and logistics service of Belgium, today said the company is open to acquisitions in India in the near future.

"We are ready for acquisitions in India," Belgian Post International (BPI) Managing Director Peter Somers told reporters here on the sidelines of the announcement of its joint venture with Indian logistics company, Expressit Logistic Worldwide Ltd.

"Our joint venture is the first step... As of now, acquisitions are not on our agenda. But sooner or later, we will go for the next step," he said.

When asked if BPI was eyeing its partner Expressit, he said that if the Expressit was open, then definitely BPI would consider it.

"This can be a strong possibility," he added.

The company has many such JVs in other countries as part of its strategy to expand its footprint globally and plans to have more such tie-ups where the company doesn't have a presence, Somers said.

Expressit and Belgian Post International today announced a joint venture, 'MailPlus Offer', which will bring to the market a unique international express mail delivery service across 180 countries.

The JV will mainly focus on growing e-commerce-related cargo services, Expressit Chairman and Managing Director Ashis Nain said.
