Berger Intl offers tech to Filipino firm Dutch Boy

Berger International, Asian Paints India's subsidiary, has entered into a technical licensing agreement with Dutch Boy Philippines Inc, the second largest paint company in Philippines. The pact will allow Dutch Boy to use Asian Paints technology for developing its products in Philippines.
 
Berger International also holds a 30 per cent minority stake in Dutch Boy. Jalaj Dani, chairman, Berger International and head - international operations, Asian Paints, told Business Standard, "This is one of the fastest growing markets in South-East Asia. This gives us an indirect foothold in the region and also allows us to leverage our technology to other paint companies."
 
Dutch Boy would pay a royalty to Asian Paints for he technology, as per its requirements.
 
This arrangement with Dutch Boy is Asian Paints fourth technology transfer arrangement. The company supplies technological assistance to Berger International Malta, which it exited last year. Berger International Pakistan and PT Abadi, Indonesia also use Asian Paints' technology.
 
Asian Paints has its research and development centre at Bhandup in Mumbai.
 
The company acquired a 50.1 per cent stake in Berger International in 2002. Berger International has subsidiaries in 11 countries including Singapore.
