State-run power equipment maker BHEL today said that the company-built thermal power-generating sets produced over 4 % more electricity in the country in 2008-09 than the previous fiscal.

"Power generation in the country received a boost with BHEL-built thermal sets generating over 4 % more electricity in the last fiscal as compared to fiscal 2007-08," a company statement said.

During the year, the sets generated 403.43 billion units of electricity, which constituted 79 % of the total power generated in the country from coal-based thermal sets, against 387.71 billion units in the previous fiscal, the statement said.

BHEL-manufactured thermal sets achieved a Plant Load Factor (PLF) of 80.1 %, which is 3.1% higher than the national average, it said.

During fiscal 2008-09, the installed capacity of BHEL-supplied utility sets went up to 87,646 MW and the company maintained its share of 64 % in the country's total installed capacity of 1,38,175 MW, it said.
