T N Veeraraghavan, executive director, BHEL Ranipet said that this technology collaboration agreement will be to manufacture and supply of Flue Gas Desulphurisation System's for removal of sulphur dioxide from flue gases.
M Satyamoorthy, general manager – Engineering, BHEL Ranipet added that as the statutory requirement for power plants are getting more stringent, especially in cluster and inland power stations, the company see a big opportunity in this business.

“We are expecting around Rs 2,000 crore going forward from this business alone,” said Satyamoorthy. He noted, as the power plants in the country are importing more and more coal, the company see a good business since the imported coal got higher sulphur contents.
He added, the ticket size of this business would be around Rs 300 crore for a 650 MW plant. The company is bidding for NTPC's Vindhyachal project and hopeful that it will get the order to install Flue Gas Desulphurisation System. The company expecting around Rs 250-300 crore order during the current year.
This will be a 15-year technology tie-up and five per cent of the produce will have an import content from Mitsubishi, he said.
The BHEL's Ranipet Unit is also planning to enter sewage water treatment along with US-giant GE. “It will be again a technology collaboration, we are looking at around Rs 400 crore worth of business by 2016-17,” said Satyamoorthy.
Speaking about Defence, Veeraraghavan said that BHEL, Ranipet has entered into a contract for Rs 38 crore with LPSC/ISRO for machining of satellite fuel tanks for the next five years.
On the 2012-13 performance, he said, despite challenging market situation, the Ranipet unit of BHEL has clocked a turnover of Rs 3,710 crore in 2012-13. Direct orders received by Ranipet has increased to Rs 437 crore from Rs. 38 crore last year.
