Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL), Trichy complex reported a 124 per cent increase in profit before tax to Rs 358 crore for the financial year ending March 31, 2005 compared to Rs 160 crore last year. |
BHEL, Tirchy, achieved a 59 per cent increase in its turnover at Rs 3,608 crore for the financial year 2005-06, as compared to Rs 2,273 crore registered in the previous year. Of the total turnover of BHEL, the Trichy unit contributed 25 per cent. BHEL recorded a total turnover of Rs 14,410 crore in the year 2005-06. |

Addressing the media here today, V Gopalakrishnan, executive director, BHEL Trichy, said the unit could achieve this number as it enhanced the annual output by over 1 lakh tonnes to reach an all-time high of 3.20 lakh tonnes during the year. The unit also recorded a 124% increase in its profit before tax at Rs 358 crore. |

Attributing the achievements to three major business strategies adopted by the unit, he said the re-structuring exercise envisaging all manufacturing shops of the boiler plant under one umbrella and combing all sub-contracting and ancillary development operations under another group "� outsourcing group "� delivered results in terms of improved efficiency and faster response. |

Secondly, bringing about a paradigm shift in manufacturing strategy resulted in high productivity. |

The third thrust, he said, was on labour relations and specific steps were taken to raise the morale of employees. |

Besides, the PSU went in for fresh recruitment after a gap of 20 years and another 300- 400 freshers would be recruited in future pending sanction from the board, he added. |
