Pramukh Agriclinic Bio-control Laboratory, a research and manufacturing facility for pesticides and fungicides, has been launched in Madhi village of Surat district.

This will be the first such lab and manufacturing facility in the state funded by the National Horticulture Mission (NHC).

The lab has a mass production facility with a capacity for producing 1,000 kg of bio-pesticides and bio-fungicides per month. However, the capacity will be doubled later. The promoter of this venture is also eyeing to launch their products in Australia and African countries.

The lab is funded by the government under the NHC and the promoter claims that this is the first of its kind private lab with a capacity to mass produce.

Devendra Patel, promoter of this venture, told Business Standard, "This will be the first such lab in Gujarat funded under NHC. There are many small labs in the state with only a research facility. However, we also have a mass production facility in the lab."

On the investment, Patel said, "The cost of the lab is Rs 2.25 crore, and of that Rs 40 lakh will be funded by the government under NHC. We will shortly receive the loan. We had been planning the lab for a long time and after assessing the demand for fungicides and pesticides in south Gujarat, known for its horticulture sector we decided on this. We even signed an MoU with Gujarat during this years' Vibrant Gujarat Global Investors' Summit."

The lab will carry out research on various types of bio-pesticides and bio-fungicides and will launch four products under the brandname of 'Fungbact'.

On the lab's manufacturing capacity and its products, Chetan Patel, the in-charge of the laboratory research said, "The lab has the initial capacity to produce 1,000 kg of bio-fungicides and bio-pesticides per month. However, the mass production capacity will be doubled up in a few months. The lab will start production within a month and we will launch our own brands of bio-fungicides and bio-pesticides under the brand-name of 'Fungbact'."

"The various products include Paredebact, Fricozone,Fungbact-B-Thurra and Fungbact-t-Monas. These bio-pesticides and bio-fungicides can be used in horticulture as well as normal crops including grains, oilseeds and cotton."

The promoter of the lab is also aiming to export the produce in the future. On the exports plans Devendra Patel said, "We are going to register our products for testing in Australia, African countries and Latin American countries as we plan to export these products in the future. However, at present our major focus will be on domestic markets. We will sell our bio-pesticides and bio-fungicides in Gujarat and later venture into other states like Maharashtra and Punjab."
