During the period, blended cement accounted for about 54 per cent of the total cement production in India against 46 per cent of OPC.
Analysts say the current level has gone up as a result of increase of blending ratios of some cement majors such as Grasim.
The ratios are expected to rise futher as construction picks up after monsoon. Analysts also predict that the major portion of the overall growth in the cement industry is likely to emanate from this category.
According to companies, the primary reason for the increase in the demand for blended cement is greater consumer awareness about higher durability and economical costs.
The 16.4 million Associated Cement Companies (ACC), which has the has one of the highest blending ratios of about 81.5 per cent, produced about 13.04 million tonne of blended cement in 2002-03.
