"We have been sourcing some components for bikes and also auto parts from India. Considering the increasing capabilities of Indian vendors we are looking to source more parts from the country," BMW Board Member (international parts sourcing) Herbert Diess told reporters here.
He said the company has been in talks with Indian auto component makers and have identified about three-four firms already for sourcing car parts without disclosing details.
Also a "moderate number" of suppliers have been identified for supplying motorcycle parts. Asked about the expected volumes to be sourced from India, he declined to give any figures stating "it is very early at this stage".
The company currently sources small volumes of auto components such as horns from India, while the motorcycles business has been procuring components like handle bars and die cast from India.

He, however, said at some point BMW might be looking at more utilisation of software from India for in-car applications.
