Boom in vehicles' sales in Ahmedabad

Revival in the stock markets and improvement in the economy has led to boom in vehicles' sale from two wheelers to cars and other commercial vehicles in the city since three to four months.

Month wise data of vehicles sold in Ahmedabad and registered in Regional Transport Office (RTO) here from April 2008 to September 2009, suggest that the sale of vehicles had falled significantly from September 2008 to January 2009.

As per the data obtained from RTO, on an average, 12000 vehicles used to be registered monthly in Ahmedabad from April to August 2008.

A total os 12,595 vehicles were registered in April 2008, 12,924 in May, 10,185 in June, 11,464 in July, 10,501 in August.

However, as the global economic situation worsened, it started impacting the domestic market and in September 2008, only 7,023 vehicles were registered while 8,794 vehicles were registered in the subsequent month of October.

In November, 10,245 vehicles were registered while 8,404 and 8,306 vehicles were registered in the month of December and Januray respectively.

"From September to January, the sale of vehicles was really slack in Ahmedabad but slowly it picked up in February and now its booming," Ahmedabad RTO Atul Gor said.

Gor added that from February to September 2009, number of vehicles registered per month on average crosses 12,000, which shows a huge spurt in the vehicles market.

In February, 11,930 vehicles were registered, it jumped to 14,445 in March and subsequently, it remained steady over 12,000 vehicles subsequently.

Total 11,608 in April, 12,198 in May, 11,087 in June, 13,221 in July, 12,708 in August and 12,710 in September.

According to Gor, revenue earned by RTO Ahmedabad in September 2008 stood at Rs 11.67 crore while this year in the same month, it jumped to 23.2 crore.

"In July 2008, we earned Rs 11.66 crore which went up in the same month of the current year at Rs 12.54 crore and in August 2008, our total earning was Rs 12.91 crore which stood at Rs 14.23 crore in August this year," Gor added, sharing the details of the revenue earned by the RTO.
