BPCL expects naphtha exports to rise 25% this fiscal

State-owned refining and oil- marketing company Bharat Petroleum (BPCL) expects to increase naphtha exports by 25 per cent to one million tonne this financial year from 0.8 million tonnes last year.

BPCL would take advantage of the rising demand for naphtha in markets in east Asia to push up exports.

BPCL's refinery in Mumbai is expected to produce two million tonnes of Naphtha this year, a company official said.

BPCL's total fuel exports this year would be close to 1.7 million tonnes, similar to the previous fiscal, the company's chairman A K Sinha had said earlier.

"Naphtha sales do not contribute very significantly to the company's overall fuel sales. However, countries like China are increasing Naphtha imports as petrochemical producers in east Asia are increasing capacity to process the product for ethylene, a raw material for petrochemicals," the official said.
