A combination of new products and aggressive marketing strategies will offer BPL the leverage to end the fiscal with the target sales of 1.25 million units.

"We have a new range of televisions that targets every consumer segment and price point. These new offerings are already showing a marked improvement in our sales. We are planning to achieve a market share of over 20 per cent and a growth of 25 per cent during the current fiscal," Ajit Nambiar, chairman and managing director of BPL, said.

The Bangalore-based company continues to lead the CTV segment with a 17.2 per cent market share.

According to ORG-GFK data, BPL has dropped prices of CTVs by 3.7 per cent in fiscal 2001-02, while LG and Samsung have slashed prices by 19 per cent and 11 per cent, respectively.

With the largest retail penetration in India, BPL has a presence in 34.1 per cent of all CTV dealers in the country.

"We are in the middle of re-aligning our manufacturing facilities across the country to optimise tax benefits and improve supply chain efficiencies. As BPL has achieved significant market share in main markets and established alliances with technology firms, the company is poised for growth," Nambiar said.

As part of its initiative to rationalise production, BPL has also decided to outsource the final assembly of its low-end TVs to locations that offer tax benefits.

The thrust on exports and growing domestic demand during the current year will result in full capacity utilisation across the manufacturing facilities, the release said.

BPL is looking at a slew of new models to achieve sales of 1.25 million CTVs. These include new models in the Matrix flat screen range; an upgraded Studioline series (boasting of the world's first and only TV with 1000W sound output delivered via a 7 speaker system) and the new 20-inch and 21-inch regular models.
