BPL is all set to focus on its core business of consumer electronics, and is also planning to launch wireless products.According to a release issued by BPL to the BSE today, "having obtained approval from the Kerala High Court for its financial restructuring scheme and the launch of the 50:50 joint venture with Sanyo for the CTV business, the company plans to leverage its brand, distribution and manufacturing strengths to introduce its long-awaited products in the wireless space. The company plans to launch a range of mobile handsets, portable tele-communication and wireless products within the next few months."BPL had earlierd in the day announced the signing of an MoU with Eveready Industries for the sale of BPL Soft Energy Systems for Rs 67 crore, the release added.BPL had commissioned PricewaterhouseCoopers to do a strategic exercise for the various businesses of the company. "Based on the conclusions, the company will now focus on the core businesses that have been identified as entertainment electronics, medical electronics, engineering plastics and tooling, primarily for the automotive & consumer electronics industry," the release said. Ajit Nambiar, CMD of BPL, said: "With the MoU now in place, and the JV with Sanyo all ready to kick start, it promises to be a new beginning for BPL."
