B Braun, a German manufacturer of medical devices including infusion therapy and pain management products, has committed to make an incremental investment of Rs 35 crore in a public-private-partnership project in Andhra Pradesh over the seven years.
Under the terms agreed upon between B Braun and the Andhra Pradesh government, the former will set up 11 centres equipped with 111 haemodialysis machines within medical colleges and hospitals in the state to provide treatment to patients suffering from chronic kidney diseases (CKDs).
“Eleven centres with 83 machines are already operational. We have registered over 350 patients and performed over 7,500 treatments up to March 13. Three more centres will be commissioned next month,” Lam Chee Hong, managing director (Asia Pacific) of B Braun, told reporters here.
Stating that the company was targeting to provide treatment to 1,000 patients once the 11 centres are established, Hong said the state government would pay Rs 1,080 per treatment to B Braun under the Arogyashree scheme. “We intend to replicate the PPP model in other parts of the country and talk with several state governments are in an advanced stage,” he added.
B Braun which generated a worldwide sales of approximately ¤3.8 billion in 2008, and has so far invested ¤20 million in its India operations.
Since 1994. The company has its surgical sutures (device used to hold body tissues together after an injury or surgery) manufacturing plant in Chennai employing over 350.
