British Airways will suspend flights from here to the Heathrow airport in London from March 28, 2009, for want of sufficient business.
"The decision to suspend flights between Kolkata and London has been a difficult one to make.
However, the route is not making a profitable contribution to our business and we are unable to sustain it," British Airways (BA) Area Commercial Manager, South Asia, Amanda Amos said in a release here today.
The airline would contact the customers, who were booked to travel with the BA from Kolkata after March 28, 2009 for making alternate arrangement, the release said.
Stating that India remained an important market for the BA, it said, "we continue to offer our customers an extensive network in India."
There would be options for both BA passengers and cargo customers in the Kolkata region to join BA services via other Indian gateways.
The BA has operated flights to Kolkata intermittently since the 1930s and currently operates three weekly flights between Kolkata and London (Heathrow).
