As a war-ravaged Afghanistan attempts to rebuild itself, city-based power major BSES Ltd has become the latest Indian company to join the rush to bag construction contracts there.
There are a slew of other corporates including Larsen & Toubro, Mahindra & Mahindra, and Godrej & Boyce who have evinced interest in the rebuilding of Afghanistan. BSES has already written to the ministry of external affairs expressing its interest.
The Centre has sanctioned $100 million as assistance for reconstructing the war-torn country but has added the rider that Afghanistan should give contracts to Indian companies.
A special cell has been set up in the ministry of external affairs to co-ordinate this effort. BSES chairman and managing director R V Shahi said,
