Bhilai Steel Plant (BSP), the flagship entity of the Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL), recorded 4.7 per cent growth in hot metal production in first seven months of the fiscal as compared to the figure of corresponding period in the last financial year.
A statement issued by the company said that BSP recorded a growth of 4.7 per cent, 2.2 per cent and 3.2 per cent in cumulative production of hot metal, crude steel and saleable steel respectively for the seven months period of April to October 2010, over that in corresponding period of last fiscal year.
In October 2010, the Plant recorded highest ever production of 24,105 Tonne (T) of Normalised plates.
The Rail and Structural Mill recorded highest ever loading of 31,138 T of 26 metre rails. A landmark was reached at Steel Melting Shop 2 when a converter crossed individual record lining life of 11036 heats on October 2, 2010.
“This is a new benchmark in top blown Converters in the country”, the statement said.
For the period April to October 2010, total sinter production at 4.60 Million Tonne (MT) was best ever as compared to 4.37 MT recorded in corresponding period in 2008.

The blast furnaces produced 3.31 MT of hot metal as compared to 3.16 MT recorded in 2009.
With SMS I producing 1.53 MT and SMS II producing 1.55 MT of crude steel as compared to previous best figures of 1.52 MT and 1.54 MT, respectively, the Plant has recorded best ever total crude steel production of 3.08 MT in April to October 2010 as compared to 3.02 MT in 2009.
