Coffee chain Café Coffee Day is expanding its presence and plans to open another 100 outlets across India by March 2012.

The chain plans to open 60 cafeterias and 45 lounges this year. The company would have 1,250 outlets by the end of this financial year. All the outlets are owned by the company and there are no plans to go for the franchise route.

According to CCD Head Food and Beverage Ramchander Raman, the increasing exposure of Indian travellers abroad has helped to implement new concepts in coffee brewing and the company has launched alternative brewing techniques like Siphon, Pour-Over and French Press along with world cuisine at the coffee outlets.

Talking to media on the launch of its first CCD Lounge in north at Panchkula, he added, the backward integration in terms of own coffee plantations has helped the company maintain the quality content.

The conventional CCDs outsource the kitchen to third parties but the Lounge concept of CCD has its own kitchen.

The chain is managed by a staff of 7,000 trained workers. Due to growing expectations of customers, the upgradation of manpower is a constant process in the food and beverage industry, he added. The company has an in-house traning institute at Chikmagalur.
