Vocational and Educational Development Institute - CALORX (VEDIC), part of the Calorx Education and Research Foundation, has launched the 'MJ Pherwani Garment Training Center' in Ahmedabad.
To be run from the Delhi Public School (DPS) in the eastern part of the city, the institute will provide skill enhancement in the garment sector.
The center was formally inaugurated on Thursday by Chandan Chatterjee, director, Centre for Entrepreneurship Development (CED), Government of Gujarat (GoG) and Sunil Jhaveri, founder director, MSJ Capital & Corporate Services Pvt. Ltd.
"At a time when skill enhancement has become an integral part of states' and Centre's policies for economic development, initiatives like this training centre hold great significance. With short duration of programs and industry as well as task specific training can make a great difference in alleviating the shortage of skilled manpower," said Chatterjee.
According to Asutosh Dave, head - VEDIC, the centre will impart training to around 30 people, mainly youth from BPL families every month. The centre, which has IL&FS Cluster Development Initiatives Ltd as its knowledge partner, will provide the training under a specially designed course called 'Stitching Machine Operator' (SMO).
"The centre will play a crucial role in bridging the skill gap and go a long way in fulfilling the need of talented youth particularly for the garment industry," said Jhaveri.
He added that on completion of the course, the candidates would be placed in reputed garment manufacturing companies like Ashima, Artex, and Blueblends, among others with whom the organisation has tied up.
