Cambay Golf, an executive golf course venture of Neesa Leisure, is looking to spread its wings on the western corridor. Promoted by businessman Sanjay Gupta, Cambay Golf is looking to buy plots and set up exclusive golf courses in cities like Vadodara, Surat, Rajkot, Jaipur and Udaipur.According to Arvind Gupta, MD, Neesa Leisure, these golf courses will be at least 9-hole courses.Currently, Cambay Golf is present in Gandhinagar, Gujarat, as a part of The Cambay Spa and Resort. Apart from a 6-hole golf course, Cambay Golf in Gandhinagar also has a virtual golf centre and a golf academy for its members."The virtual golf centre requires you to use real golf sets to play on a virtual golf course that will feature the exact velocity, direction and other details of your shot," Gupta said."Golf courses are no longer a metros only phenomenon. Moreover, equipment has become cheaper, making it easier to set up a golf course. Also, interest among people in smaller cities is also growing. It is no more a rich man's game. Therefore, we want to tap the market by setting up a series of such golf courses in the western corridor, especially in Gujarat and Rajasthan," Gupta said.Refusing to divulge the investment that would be required in setting up these golf courses, Gupta said: "The land prices are different in different places. Moreover, equipment is getting cheaper every day, which makes it difficult to calculate what investment it would require as of now," Gupta said.At Gandhinagar, Cambay Golf charges a life-time membership fees of Rs 1,50,000 for silver class and Rs 2,50,000 for gold class. For non-members, the charges are Rs 500 per hour at the golf course.Equipment is cheaper in metros since there is a higher demand there. On an average, a golf set would cost anything from Rs 20,000 to Rs 1 lakh, Gupta said.
