International beer major Carslberg has shown interest in setting up a beer-manufacturing plant in Rajasthan.

Sources in the department said representatives of the company had met Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje and expressed their desire to establish a project in Rajasthan.

Carlsberg, headquartered in Denmark, is one of the largest breweries in the world and is present in about 50 countries. The company's main brand is Carlsberg Beer, but it also brews Tuborg as well as some local beers.

Carlsberg has expressed its desire to set up its plant in the Alwar district of the state for which the company has also demanded the land from the state government, sources added.

The state government is mulling over the Danish company's proposal and the search for land for the project has started. Rajasthan State Industrial Development and Investment Corporation (RIICO) has been entrusted the task of finding land for the beer major.

Carlsberg was founded by JC Jacobsen; the first brew was finished on November 10, 1847. The export of Carlsberg Beer began in 1868; foreign brewing was begun in 1968 with the opening of a Carlsberg brewery in Blantyre, Malawi.
