Lars Olofsson, the chief executive of Carrefour SA, is likely to visit India later this month or early February, media reports said today.
He could announce the French retailer's partnership with Kishore Biyani's Future Group during his visit here.
The French retailer is in talks with the Future Group, and is reported to have arrived at an agreement with the latter to open its stores in the country.
Olofsson's visit comes close on the heels of the trip made by Walmart CEO Mike Duke in October last year.
India's $450 billion retail sector, with organised retail accounting for just 6-7 per cent, is largely closed to foreign firms and favours small stores, which provides livelihood to a number of people serving a market of more than one billion.
