Japanese watches and durables maker Casio is focusing on low-priced products as part of its strategy to increase business from small towns and cities in India.

The company is targeting a growth of 40 per cent in the watches business with special focus on Tier II and Tier III cites. It plans to more than double the company's points of sales during the year.

"This fiscal we have changed our strategy. From metros we are now shifting focus on Tier II and III cities and will be launching more models in the segment below Rs 3,000, besides, opening more points of sales in such cities," Casio India Company Head (Sales & Marketing) Kulbhushan Seth told PTI.

Casio watches are currently available in around 600 multi-branded outlets. "By March 2010, we will increase it to over 1,200 outlets, mainly in smaller cities," he added.

He said the company has recently introduced 70-80 new models priced below Rs 3,000 and will continue to add to the range this year.

"Last year, we sold around 15,000 units of watches in the Indian market and our target is to grow by 40 per cent in volume sales in 2009-10. The main growth for this will come from the Tier II and III cities," Seth said.

Casio currently sells over 800 models of watches in the Indian market that can cost up to Rs 30,000. All its models are imported from Japan.
