With a view to generate competition among power distribution companies like Reliance Energy, Tata Power and CESC for quality electricity supply, the Central Electricity Authority (CEA) today kicked off a monthly evaluation process, and rated the Ambanis-promoted Reliance Energy as the top distribution company (discom)."CEA has introduced a process of monthly evaluation of power distribution system to monitor the performance of discoms on an all-India basis. The evaluation is based on the number of trippings and outage duration of 11 KV feeders," CEA said in a release today. It rated supply by Reliance Energy in Greater Mumbai to be the best at 0.04 trippings per feeder, and the lowest time it took to rectify the faults at an average 1.85 minutes per feeder.CESC, the discom for Kolkata, stood second at 0.10 trippings and 16.27 minute rectification time per feeder in the city.CEA said the evaluation process will generate a spirit of competition among the discoms and will be a step towards creating an "environment of customer satisfaction."In Delhi, the tripping figures for BSES (Rajdhani area) and BSES (Yamuna area) stood at 5.19 and 5.38, respectively, while the correction time for the same was 672.06 and 634.56 minutes, respectively."The evaluation is presently limited to towns with a population of more than 8 lakh. It is proposed to gradually cover all the towns in the country and work out reliability evaluation indices in line with international practice," the release said.
