The Central Coalfields Ltd (CCL) has registered a coal production of 7.132 million tonne (MT) in the first quarter of 2008-09.

This was up from the 6.996 MT production it recorded during the corresponding period in the last fiscal, company sources said today.

With an aim to meet increasing demand of coal in core and non-core sectors, the public sector has revised its production target to 49 MT from 47 MT for 2008-09 fiscal, the sources said here.

The CCL had already accomplished a record production of 44.15 MT in 2007-08 fiscal.

To facilitate increase in coal despatch, the CCL has initiated steps to open new 'sidings' like Piparwar and Tori, the sources said and added the company is in touch with the Railways for allotment of more wagons to despatch coal.

The public sector has set a target of 80.50 MT production of raw coal by the end of the 11th five-year plan.
