CESC has revived the long-shelved 1,300 Mw Balagrah thermal power plant in West Bengal's Hooghly district.
"We are planning to go ahead with the project with super critical plants which will increase capacity from 500 Mw proposed earlier," a top company official said.
The terms of reference for environmental clearance was currently being worked on, he said, declining to be quoted.
A study was conducted by Babcock to look into the feasibility of the project with bank protection to prevent water entering the area which has been approved," the official said.
Incidentally, the state government seemed unaware of the development with Industry minister Nirupam Sen saying that he had asked the company to explain 'its stand' on Balagrah.
CESC has 800 acre of land in its possession for the project. The RPG group had proposed a 2x250 Mw thermal plant at the site in 2000-01.
