Chandigarh-based TT Consultants, one of the largest firms in the region, engaged in IP and legal services consultancy, is planning to expand its operations in Europe, US and China. Currently the company has offices in Chandigarh, Guragaon, US and Taiwan and has clients in 25 countries including the US, Canada, Japan, Taiwan etc.
Speaking to Business Standard, Komal Alwar, director, TT Consultants, said, “Currently, we are working with top companies which are among the Fortune 500 list. Buoyed by the response from overseas clients and in order to reach out to new territories and further strengthen our presence, we are planning to open new offices.”
“Taking a step in this direction, recently we have opened offices in Gurgaon and Washington DC. Currently we are in process of expanding our operations at these locations,” he added.
Further we have plans to explore new markets for that we would be opening offices in Europe, US and China."
It is worth mentioning that the company provides Patent Litigation and Prosecution Support, Licensing Support, Technology Transfer Consulting, Patent Portfolio Management and other IP related services to leading patent law firms, attorneys, inventors, companies and intellectual property owners in US, India, Canada, Taiwan and Japan. Besides that the company is also working on technology transfer front and has facilitated deals for Pharma companies.
She informed that the company was set up in 2006 and added, " Through the years, we have worked closely with our clients to re-define processes, increase value of technology, invalidate patents through robust prior art and provide other such consulting so as to radically re-define paradigms." The company is having 1000 clients, with share of Indian clients relatively small mainly because of less emphasis in R & D.

On being asked about the Northern region, she added, " The region is dominated by SMEs and awareness about IPR(Intellectual Property Rights) in the region is relatively small but it is growing and may be in next 3-5 pick up."
Taking a step in this direction and in order to assist the SMEs in extracting the latent value of their Intellectual Property (IP) and using it effectively in their business strategy, The Intellectual Property Facilitation Centre(IPFC) being set up by Ministry of MSMEs, Government of India at Chandigarh is conducting a pilot study on IPR needs of ‘ Sanitary and bathroom fittings’ cluster at Mohali(Punjab). Based on the study and compiling the feedback it may conduct training and sensitisation programmes for the Industries/cluster to create better understanding on various aspects and potential of IPR.
Further, realizing the importance of Intellectual Property Rights(IPRs), Universities, technical institutes and even educational Institutes in Punjab are getting their innovations patented.
