Rajpura-based Om Engineering, which manufactures chapati making machines, is betting big on orders from non-governmental organisations and the mid-day meal scheme.

The company is working on an improved chapati making machine, which which will have a baking capacity of 40,000 chapatis an hour, said Vidya Sagar. The first set of machines would be delivered by the end of April.

The new machine would consume 20 kg of LPG gas per hour, as compared with the earlier ones that consumed 8 kg of LPG an hour.

“Because of its low running cost — the machine costs about Rs 300 per hour for making 40,000 chapatis — quite a few NGOs have come forward to purchase it,” he said.

Om Engineering has supplied about 20 machines to the Naandi Foundation of Dr Reddy’s. The company has also supplied machines to the International Society for Krishna Consciousness, Delhi, JP Cement, Golden Temple, Amritsar, among others.

Besides, it has received orders from South Africa and Muscat for supply of machines with a capacity of 12,000 and 6,000 chapatis per hour respectively.
