Ciba Specialty Chemicals has signed a joint venture (JV) agreement with the Virchow Group, Hyderabad, for the production of high quality triclosan, a highly efficacious, long-lasting, antimicrobial chemical compound.Under the JV agreement, Ciba Specialty Chemicals will hold 51% stake in the new company, which will produce triclosan for the domestic as well as other Asian markets, Jimmy Bilimoria, vice chairman and managing director of Ciba Specialty Chemicals (India), said. Triclosan helps to prevent oral infections, germ transfer, body odour, and material decay and is a key ingredient in a variety of products including toothpastes, soaps, deodorants and non-cosmetic articles such as shower curtains and technical textiles.With this joint venture, Ciba Specialty Chemicals aims to further expand its share of the growing cosmetics market in Asia and improve its position in the region.
