Multi-brand discount store 'The Loot' is planning to open around 25 stores in cities such as Surat, Nashik and Baroda.The chain, promoted by Jay Retailing and Merchandising Private Ltd, aims to complete the launches by mid-2006. The Loot also plans to increase of number of stores to 100 by the 2008-09. |
"Everyone loves discounts and given a choice one would prefer to buy even the top most brands on discount. As the concept of year-round discount shopping catches up in the country discount shops will do good business," said Sushil Dungarwal , CEO, The Loot. |

The store retails brands like Adidas, Nike, Reebok, Red Tape, Lee Cooper, Pepe Jeans, Levi's, Benetton, Spykar, Wrangler, Lee, Provogue, Arrow and SF jeans on discounts ranging from 30 to 70 per cent. The store currently operates in cities like Mumbai, Delhi, Hyderabad and Vizag. |

The Loot started as a franchisee of various brands and turned into a discount store in mid-2004. At present , the store has over 13 outlets. |

It has recently done a strategic tie-up with the RPG group's Spencers' hypermarket and will have a shop-in-shop at every Spencers' store in the country. Talks are on with other hypermarket brands such as Star India Bazaar, a Tata enterprise, and Magnet for similar shop-in-shops. |

Dungarwal also plans to launch a mega 15,000 sq ft format store. |

"Our strength as a retailer lies in procurement and supply chain management. This helps in getting better pricing from the manufacturer and we are able to pass on the benefits to the consumer," said Dungarwal. |

The store also has exclusive tie-ups with brands such as Tuscan Verve and Thomas Scott for their all India surplus business. Apart from Indian brands the store also sources products from the global markets. |

The store currently offers a mix of semi-formals, casuals and sports wear, footwear and accessories. A formals section will soon be launched said Dungarwal. |

The company reported a top line of Rs 15 crore in 2004-05, and expctes to end the current financial year at around Rs 25 crores, said Dungarwal. |
