Following requests from the exim trade to control the cost of transportation of containers to the newly commissioned International Container Transshipment Terminal (ICTT), the Cochin Port Trust has initiated discussions with various agencies in the transport sector.

Lots Shipping Company, which operates the Ro-Ro barge service at the International Container Transshipment Terminal (ICTT) has declared steep reduction in container ferry charges.

The new rates for ferrying of a 20 ft trailer will be Rs 750 (from Rs 1,000) and the new rate for a 40 ft container will be Rs 1,350 (from Rs 1,667). The concessional rate announced by the company is expected to help reduce the cost of movement of containers from south, especially those of cashew, coir and seafood.

On the risk coverage of cargo and the truck while being ferried, Lots Shipping has said the cargo and truck on the Ro-Ro vessel is covered under protection and indemnity insurance.
