Cochin Port Trust has become the country's first e-Port with the completion of ERP implementation. Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) undertook the project and completed it in ten months.

The project integrates the port's operational, financials, real estate and human resources systems on an Integrated Port Information System. Once fully operational, it will provide a real time interface with customs, port users, banks and the port community system of the Indian Ports Association.

N Ramachandran, chairman, Cochin Port Trust, said: "With this (ERP implementation), we will be enabled and empowered to closely monitor performance, improve operational efficiency and provide higher standards of service to the shipping and export-import community."

TCS has implemented and customised the application software for port operations, SAP ERP, GIS-based Estate Management and set up a state-of-art data centre along with campus-wide networking.
