Post-ban, cola makers Coca Cola India and PepsiCo have filed petitions in the Kerala High Court seeking relief against the ban order. The hearing on the petitions is scheduled to come up before the court on Monday. Coca Cola India, in its plea, stated the company strongly believes: "there is no legal basis for the ban and it is unfair, arbitrary and unwarranted." The company said it has no option but to challenge the order. Pointing out that independent tests at accredited laboratories in and outside the country have clearly shown that Coca Cola beverages are safe, it said there is no basis for this ban. We have shared the results of these tests with the Kerala government, but they have not withdrawn the ban the company petition said.Adding that Coca-Cola India supports the move by the Centre to adopt clear criteria for pesticide residues in soft drinks, which are based on scientifically validated testing methods, it said "we have the same uncompromising commitment to product safety and quality in our beverages in India that we have around the world". Meanwhile PepsiCo who also filed the plea in the Kerala High Court against the state order banning the production and sale of Pepsi, said: "no reasons had been assigned for the ban". The cola makers felt the ban was announced without hearing their version of the story, which they feel was unfair on the part of the state government.
