Coke posts 12% volume growth in India

The Coca Cola Company today said it had registered a 12 per cent volume growth in India, for the quarter ended December 2010. The company’s total sales in the country had seen a rise of 20 per cent in the year-ago period.

“India grew 12 per cent in the quarter with strong festival activation, cycling 20 per cent growth in the prior year quarter. Our brands now represent four of the top five sparkling brands in India,” the company said in a statement.

In the sparkling beverages segment, Indian operations registered a volume growth of 10 per cent. The company, however, did not provide the absolute volume sales registered during the period.

The Atlanta-based company today reported total net profit of $5.7 billion for the fourth quarter, against $1.5 billion in the same period of 2009. CocaCola’s sales during the fourth quarter in 2010 increased 40 per cent at $10.4 billion, against $7.5 billion in the previous year.

The company’s worldwide volumes grew six per cent.
