Container Corporation of India Ltd (Concor), a sole multimodel logistics provider, is planning to run rakes to/from Mundra, Pipavav and Kandla shortly.

At present, Concor is observing the response to its newly launched container freight station (CFS).

On Tuesday, Concor launched its CFS at Chhani in Vadodara. The new CFS at Vadodara is the second full-fledged CFS in the state, commissioned on about 25,000 sq metre space with rail connectivity to various ports.

S D Saxena, manager for Concor Vadodara operations, said: "We are planning to start rack movements towards Gujarat-based ports such as Kandla and Mundra. There is a potential lying in Gujarat-based ports as well as the dependence on Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT) will be lessen once the racks become available towards state based ports."

The train for Gujarat-based ports have been a long pending demand by the exporters in the region.

"The traffic at JNPT is becoming manageable gradually but there should be other option available to exporters and importers," said Sharad Modi, president, Exim Club, Vadodara. The racks destined to Gujarat based ports will decrease response time for the exporters, added Modi.

"We are waiting for response to our new CFS in Vadodara. We are interested in starting movement towards within the state from Vadodara. However, we have not set the timeframe within that we want to start the rack movement within the state," said Saxena.

So far CFS Sabarmati, Ahmedabad, was the only facility for custom clearance and container movement under one roof. At present, rail container terminal of Concor at Vadodara manages about 1,000 containers of 20 feet per month.
