"One can earn carbon credits by making green buildings by submitting their project to the United Nations and prove savings to the electric grid and hence reduction in emissions," analysts said. Some of the green building projects DRI has worked on include CII-Godrej Green Business Centre, Technopolis, Kolkata; Olympia Tech Park, Chennai; Pacific Controls, Dubai; ONGC, Mumbai; Infinity Benchmark, Kolkata; ETL BPO Park, Chennai; TCS, Thiruvananthapuram; L&T, Hazira; Kalpataru, Mumbai; Patni Computers, New Delhi; ITC Hotel and EIH Hotels.

In tune with the global trend to protect the environment, the number of green building projects in India is expected to go up from the current 164 to over 2,000, and the total estimated potential for green building materials and equipment is about $4 billion by year 2012. The green building movement has gained tremendous momentum during the past five years. From a humble beginning of 20,000 sq ft of green footprint in the country in 2003, it has spread across a staggering 70 million sq ft till date, says Indian Green Building Council.
