Dr Reddy’s Laboratories Limited(DRL), which is facing strike at its API manufacturing facility near Visakhapatnam since August 12, on Tuesday said the contract workers had been preventing the company staff from entering the factory even though an agreement was reached on November 8 under conciliation with the labour department.

According to the company, the contractors and the contract workers came to an agreement in course of conciliation to call off the strike on November 8. The company has agreed to raise the daily wage to Rs 260 from the present Rs 213 and also agreed to take contract labour from the available pool of labour with the contractors based on shift requirements. In return, the CITU-affiliated union and the contract workers agreed not to resort to strike or agitations for the next two years, according to a company release.

However, Dr Reddy’s expressed its angst stating that the contract workers continued to obstruct others from work disregarding the above agreement.

“As an employer, Dr Reddy’s respects the terms of the agreement and is fully committed to implementing it. The company has an employee-friendly work culture and a proven track record of respecting all its commitments,” the release said.
